Raimundo accuses the government of being "at the service of the disease business"

"The business isn't the health business; the disease business is a very powerful business. And we have a government at the service of the disease business, with options at the service of the disease business," accused Paulo Raimundo.
Speaking on Tuesday night at a public session organized by the CDU in Brenha, one of the smallest parishes in the municipality of Figueira da Foz, in the district of Coimbra, the communist leader targeted the Minister of Health in his speech, stressing that what Ana Paula Martins should do, given the lack of professionals in the National Health Service, was to hire more doctors, nurses and technicians.
"And not what, once again, was announced, which is to divert patients without a family doctor to the private sector. Life, the health of each individual, the health of the country, is not a business. It is a right that must be guaranteed by the State, the Government, and the National Health Service," he argued.
In the same speech, before around 130 CDU activists and supporters, Paulo Raimundo spoke about the new labor package -- classifying it as a declaration of war on workers and expressing hope and confidence that the new legislation will be defeated -- but also about housing, where he claimed three things are increasing: the cost of housing, rents and bank profits.
In the area of social security, Paulo Raimundo stressed that after a lifetime of work, "there are still those who live with many difficulties, with poverty-level pensions and benefits."
"Here are the people who refuse to resign themselves and who truly believe it is necessary, and that it will be possible, sooner or later, that 40 years of work, 40 years of contributions, are more than enough to qualify for retirement without any penalty. This must move forward; people's lives are also at stake," emphasized the PCP leader.
The public session was intended to present the CDU candidates for the parish of Brenha, which, in the administrative reform of 2013, ceased to exist and, 12 years later, has now been reinstated, although it only has 743 registered voters, according to the latest data published in June.
Regarding the upcoming local elections on October 12, among other topics, Paulo Raimundo highlighted the independents who are part of the CDU lists, and who are more than a third (around 12,000) of the total of 35,000 candidates.
